Many pupils who were part of the Simonstown senior men and senior ladies’ winning championship teams of recent years kicked their first football in Oliver’s!!
We also have girls and boys camogie and hurling teams who also compete in the Cumann na mBunscol competitions.
The school takes part in Basketball and rugby blitzes and we have athletics and tennis coaches in to coach different classes throughout the year.
Every year our boys and girls teams partake in the FAI 5-a-side competition in the MDL.
There is a busy timetable of various sporting activities at lunchtimes each day thanks to our enthusiastic staff.
We have our Active flag and while we take part in competitive competitions our overall aim is to encourage all children to participate in as many sports as possible and to enjoy being active.
Each year we have an Active School Week where children get the opportunity to try lot lots of new sports. We have a dance competition, active challenges, whole school walks as well as fun games and blitzes-something for everyone!
We have a running track and all classes are timetabled for this everyday. Children enjoy running or walking the track and building up their fitness levels.
Each class in the school is timetabled for one hour per week of Physical Education (P.E.). Incorporated into the P.E. curriculum our 3rd, 4th and 5th classes also complete a swimming module during each school year.
